Traditional malas contain 108 beads plus one ‘counter bead’ and half malas contain 54 beads plus one ‘counter bead.’ You may choose from many types of wood, including sandalwood (the most popular), rosewood (beautiful deep red colour), tigerwood, or bodhi seeds (Rudraksha mala – Traditional mala of Shiva’s sacred seeds). We can place small non-counting spacer beads, if selected, when creating your mala of either brass or polished steel. The spacer beads lend to the finished look and visual appeal of the mala and, just like the tassel, are for decoration.
